3) The Awards Ceremony in Stockholm
Esaki, speaking at his commemorative lecture for the Nobel Prize
The biggest highlight for the Nobel laureate is the awards
ceremony held at the concert hall of the Nobel Prize headquarters in Stockholm,
Sweden.
It must be sure that both the award recipients and person presenting the award
are filled with energy and excitement.
It must have been the same for Esaki, as he said, "It just happened to
be that I am the first in order to receive an award, and it is the first Nobel
Prize that the new king handed over and made me After the awards ceremony
ended, the peak of the celebrations was a big dinner party with 800 people
gathered under the king's attendance. When the carefully prepared meal was
over, the winners of each field stood on the podium one by one and delivered
a speech and addressed their thanks and appreciation. As three physicists
were given the award, Esaki served as the representative and made a speech
starting with, "Your majesty, the royal family, and ladies and gentlemen
...".
The schedule for Esaki also included a commemorative lecture at the Stockholm
Institute of Technology after the award ceremony. He recalled his research
life in the speech entitled "Long Journey into Tunneling".
