34) The Delegation, “Learning in America”

The inspection team in the US which was organized in the early 1970s. (Commemorative picture from the AMI visit)

From the 1970s to the 1980s, with the idea of "Learning in America", the delegation to the US were organized and dispatched at the timing of the IEEE show and WESCON.

The photograph is a commemorative photo when the team was organized in the early 70's to visit the powerful MOS technology company, AMI Semiconductors.

General Microelectronics (GME) was the first company to commercialize MOS devices, but eventually it ran into management difficulties and as a result was sold to Philco-Ford. However, H. Bob and his team were not in favor of this policy and established AMI. The company has succeeded in the MOS business in a way that GME could not, and in 1970, it achieved sales of 28.2 million dollars and became a leading company in this market.

I also participated in this delegation and visited the company, and I clearly recall after the factory tour that Bob, who was very open-minded, took us to a bar for a few drinks.
