Japan Semiconductor Innovation 50 (A-14 1990s)
Lap Top PC, T1100 (Toshiba)
The world's first lap top PC, T1100, was developed and launched
on April 20, 1985 first in Europe. The lap top PC featured 9 pounds (about
4 kg), 9.1 x 4.7 inch2 (23 x 11cm2) monochromatic
display, 4.77MHz processor and 3.5inch floppy disc drive. The selling price
was over $5000 US. By virtue of the innovative product concept of this lap
top PC,T1100, and intensive sales efforts, over 10,000 units were sold in
one year. In 1986, upper graded machine, T3100, (Japanese version, J3100)
was developed and launched in the US and Japanese markets. This lap top
PC was the beginning of mobile PCs and evolved into note PCs which are now
widely used in our modern life.
