Japan Semiconductor Innovation 50 (A-8 1970s)
Home Use VCR (Sony & JVC)
Sony started to sell the first Betamax VCR, SL-6300, in 1975, and JVC followed with the first VHS machine, HR-3300, next year. Home use VCR market was developed by the success of these products. The battle between two different formats of Beta and VHS was finally won by VHS and the establishment of one single standard accelerated the market growth. Japanese manufactures grasped overwhelming global market share, and VCR industry drove the growth of consumer semiconductor markets, which had been driven by TV.
